Summer 2009 at MMTV

Control Room Upgrades

Staff and technical experts will be upgrading the main studio control room from June 20th to the first week of August. Studio productions utilizing this equipment will be unavailable for that time. While we expect things to be back to normal the first week of August, this will be an ongoing project that requires flexibility. MMTV appreciates the patience of our members and can promise the wait will be worth it!

During the summer, portable equipment and edit facilities will still be available for use. Once the control room is back online, we will post an announcement on our website and begin training members on how to operate the new equipment.

New Longer Hours!

MMTV is pleased to announce our public hours will be changing.

Monday to Thursday hours will be shifting from 5:00-10:30 to 4:00-10:30, meaning we will be opening our doors an hour earlier!

This will be effective starting February 2nd, 2009.

The staff is excited, as this will allow more opportunities for younger members to participate in future afternoon programs, and also many of our senior producers who are eager for increased availability earlier in the day.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact MMTV!

MMTV Sponsors MVMMS Television Program

MMTV is proud to announce the successful launch of a new innovative television education program at the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School. In partnership with Principal Tom Brow and faculty members, MMTV has donated various pieces of equipment as well as time, training, and educational expertise in the field of video production for students.

The middle school broadcast club produces a morning news show on WMVMMS-TV, or Channel 85 inside of the school. The program appears on every smart board in every classroom to broadcast morning announcements during homeroom, news highlights on activities, and important information for students. The program is in testing phase for broadcast online over the Internet for viewing outside of the school.

Are you interested in television production? Maybe you or a student you know wants to get involved in learning the ropes of video, media, and movie making. Contact Principal Tom Brow at the Middle School or shoot us an email here at MMTV.

Special thanks to the Melrose Free Press for the photos and running a terrific story.

Remembering a Colleague and Member

This past week, MMTV lost one of our most stalwart members and producers since the opening of the studio. Leonard J. “Len” Peterson, 81, of Melrose, died with loved ones at his side on December 16, 2008.

The staff of MMTV will miss Mr. Peterson. Len was one of the original members of MMTV when we opened in the early 1990's and the producer/director of MMTV's longest running series, Wellsprings of Faith. Len took such pride in his production and his work will live on at the station through the continued production of his show. Being the longest running show we have a surplus of episodes that will continue to run for as long as MMTV is on the air.

During this holiday season, MMTV and the staff would like you to keep the Peterson family in your thoughts and prayers.

Melrose Emergency Fund Telethon a Success!!!

MMTV hosted it's fourth telethon to benefit the Melrose City Emergency Fund on Sunday December 7th and set new personal fundraising records throughout the course of the night!

Joined by Mayor Rob Dolan and Mary Beth McAteer-Margolis, viewers tuned in from 7PM to 9PM to watch LIVE entertainment including live acts such as Blue of a Kind and Charlie Farren, and of course the antics of everyone's favorite late night personality T.C. Restani. With appearances by many of the cities finest public servants and community residents, the show was a tribute to the genorosity and spirit of the City of Melrose.

Contributions poured in all night and by the end of the telethon, the show had raised $9,556 to contribute to the City Emergency Fund. With matching funds from a generous donation courtesy of Ahern Painting, it pushed next day totals to well over $20,000 and set new records for the telethon program and brought in much needed funding to help citizens of Melrose going through a tough time.

If you would still like to contribute in any amount, please send your donations to the Mayor's Office at City Hall in Melrose attn: City Emergency Fund.
